Timing is super easy to check. Each side of the engine has 10mm bolts that hold the two side covers on. remove the side covers and you can check that cams on both sides the marks line up.

Usually out of time boxer motors wont run for shit.

a leak after the maf before the turbo is a massive leak and would cause a lean condition so I would def look into fixing that as well as the mechanics bad work on them seals
