Be careful welding galvanized stuff. It creates zinc oxide fumes which will give you galvanic poisoning. Also you don't want a 45 degree angle. You wanna be around 15 degrees. Check out some how to weld videos it will help alot.

Take the rod end cap bolts out barely thread them back in and give that bolt a wack with the mallet it'll pop off first try instead of fighting it!!
