I wouldn't ever deal with Monster again , poor customer service . Missing parts in my rebuild kit , didn't want to help me at all . Plus my local trans shop said that many of the parts were for a different trans . I don't know how they can still be in business .

You should do should do a tow rig build with a 5.9 Cummins or a 7.3 powerstroke. Love the videos keep it up

"..worry about problems when problems are problems.." that's some true Confucius wisdom right there.

I've used those simple Tube and Fin style coolers on a few of my vehicles over the years. I had all of them mounted as intended to the condenser, making sure to use the spacers that they came with. I never had any issues with leaks in close to 5 years of service just using quality rubber hoses and stainless steel "fuel injection" style hose clamps. They work very well for the price if you take the time to install them properly, and are definitely a viable option for budget-conscious folks.
Mounting them to the condenser lets the cooling fan pull air through a bit better than having it out in the open. Great for a "daily" type vehicle that spends time in traffic, or at lights. 🙂

Monster actually doesn't recommend using the stacked plate type cooler as they trap debris, this is why they most likely gave you a cooler for your trans install, I would highly suggest getting an auxiliary spin on filter for the trans to keep things extra clean and will go further to protect the transmission. Other valuable things would be a temp gauge, and I run a deep sump pan on my truck for added cooling. I'm not sure why they wanted you to plumb your cooler with the inlet towards the bottom, I did mine the opposite way and no matter what I do my trans stays at 185 weather i'm cruising or hauling ass.

is there enough clearance for the hood hing to clear the trans controller? looks awful close.

When putting teflon tape on a fitting, I just guide the tape with one hand and spin the fitting like I am tightening it. Keeps me from having to stop and think about which way to wind it.

Air goes the path of least resistance, thats why they want you to mount the cooler against the condenser. Now you have to build a shroud around the oil cooler if you want airflow trough the condenser behind the cooler. =) sorry for bad spelling.

I have a chevy blazer with rubber lines that have turn to putty and disconnected. I'm doing my repair myself and have looked up where the hoses connect..but I can not tell which is which under the vehicle . Would you please post an easy diagram that faces upward so i can figure out where these two lines hook up? I will be eternally grateful

Nice video Eric, if i may propose one thing; try using a bit of compression on the audio channel of your editing software.
That will keep the sound at a more composed level, especially when you use your power tools.September 7, 2019 at 9:30 am #76389imaginaryp13
why not both coolers? if your worried about temp
September 7, 2019 at 9:30 am #76390TheJurassicJunkie
Nice work Eric. Also… Hey sponsors… With all this customer fabbing, someone needs to get Eric a powder-coating system! 🙂

I have to say that I cringed when I saw you using self-tapping screws, leave those for the aftermarket audio and alarm guys. Those components will be rattling before you know it. You want to be using crimp style thread inserts (i.e.Nutserts) and fine threaded fasteners with thread locker.

actually ist best to stack heat exchangers on top of eachother because in that case theres only one way for the air to go… through the cooler
wit han air gap if its less resistance for the air to just blow around the cooler instead of through it the cooler/s will be less effective

Those “new style Chevy connectors” are you industry standard Weather Pack connectors. Astro Pneumatic, as well as many others, make crimpers to make these connectors. Amazon has a boat load of options.

What if you put both transmission coolers on the truck?
September 7, 2019 at 9:30 am #76397Olfway12991
Really hope you got a spare transmission. Not because it's a 4L60E, but because Monster. If they haven't changed their ways, I hope you have AAA.

Eric, I like your channel so much. You have in-depth technical content, but you make it easy to watch, enough for novice guys like me to follow along and improve my automotive knowledge. I learn something signifigant from every one of your videos. You are really the only channel that puts this type of content out there.
Oh, and I like the pace of your videos – you dont talk too fast like some YTers out there.
September 7, 2019 at 9:30 am #76399Prince Human
I'll keep watching you for as long as you live or for however you stick around this time. It was a bummer to see you walk away for a little but things obviously happen in real life. Thanks for recording/editing and posting. I like fixing cars and I am getting closer to my pops because of it ! 🙂
